In the 1960s, in Mason’s Addition, Nassau, a group of young people transformed the little they had into much more than art — they created a movement. Among simple shacks, cramped yards, and dirt roads, Black hands shaped cardboard, wire, and paint into costumes that screamed identity. Rhythm became resistance. The beat became a voice.
